Future Kitchens

We wish to promote the concept of ‘democratic’ kitchens that are sensitive to people’s changing needs as they grow older. Adaptations might be very simple such as having a lower work surface with space underneath so that a person can sit to work. Larder units and carousels in cupboards allow for much easier access to cupboard contents. Slim-line dishwashers can also be fitted into smaller kitchens as standard.

We have also conducted research into technological features that could be added to kitchens – from quick cooling hobs and automatic shut down of electrical items to fridges that can read out their contents.  Find out more about this research below.
